RS-447 - Louis W. Hill's Business Car Great Northern A-22

This Reference Sheet discusses in detail the building, from largely second-hand material, of Great Northern business car A-22 in 1905, its long service as Louis Hill's car, its service to other officers, and its conversion to work service. The car was a rarity in that it had a compartment used to transport an automobile, which Louis made extensive use of. During the 1930's it was used mostly by Ralph Budd, and in 1952 was converted to work train service as a living quarters car.

In 1972 Burlington Northern donated the car to the Mid-Continent Railway Museum at North Freedom, Wisconsin where it remains to this day (Fall 2025). The sheet closes with a discussion of its current condition and plans for restoration.
