DECALS, 48' 8" BULKHEAD FLAT CAR 60500 to 60549

Great Northern supplied bulkhead flat cars for transportation of lumber, plywood, wallboard, aluminum ingots, pipe, pilings, telephone poles, and granite blocks.

These 48’ 8” inside length bulkhead flat cars were built by Great Northern in 1958 using General Steel Industries cast steel bodies. Length over the strikers was 54’ 2”. This was the first lot of built new GN bulkhead flat cars. They were built with relatively short 6’ 6” high bulkhead. Later, 11 random cars received 2’ 6” bulkhead extensions making them 9 feet high.

Capacity was 100,000 pounds.

Body color was vermillion red.

Standard draft gear.

Use Walthers car.
