During WW II the Federal Government had hundreds of Troop Cars built to carry troops to a variety of destinations, mostly to training posts and to ports of embarkation. Some were kitchen cars. After the war they were surplus to government needs and many railroads purchased them for MoW use, either as kitchens or converted to bunk cars.
This handsome model is factory painted #08578 and "Minot Division".
