2026 Essex Convention

Join us for our 2026 GNRHS Convention in Essex, Montana. Essex is located at the western foot of the Great Northern's Rocky Mountain crossing and base for helper operations over the 1.8% climb from Essex to Summit.

The GNRHS member, spouse/significant other, and up to two (2) children under 18 may register for the convention under the GNRHS primary member’s number with the payment of ONE (1) registration fee.

The convention will be headquartered at LOGE Glacier, formerly the Izaak Walton Inn, from Monday, September 14 through Thursday, September 17, 2026. Reservations may be made for any or all of the days from Sunday evening through Friday morning.

There are 53 spaces available, ranging from standard rooms at the inn, to cabins, or cabooses. Room rates are based on location and room size. Prices range from $186 in the main lodge to $315 in a cabin. 

Until March 1, 2026, LOGE Glacier is providing reservations and rates to members of the GNRHS only.  On March 1, any unreserved spaces will be made available to the public. We encourage members to take advantage of this window of opportunity.

On site lodging is not required to attend the convention, but given the remote location of Essex, it is the most convenient option.

Full details of the convention are still being developed, but Monday is all presentations.  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday include presentations and afternoon visits to Sommers, Whitefish, and East Glacier respectively by private vehicles.
